‘Chartism and Civil Rights’
at Whitchurch Methodist Church Hall, Cardiff CF 14 2AA access from Kelston

Road, located opposite Whitchurch Library

 

Les James will give readings from his book: ‘Render the Chartists Defenceless’ AND in conversation with Rhodri Morgan, Wales First Minister (2000-2009) & Julie Morgan AM (Cardiff North) will discuss the role Chartists played in gaining the political rights we enjoy today.

This is a Fund raising evening for Awen@theLibrary

they are taking over the National Assembly for Wales (Senedd) and the Pierhead for a day of political performance and debate focusing on answering this question:

Tolpuddle Martyrs' Festival

There will be full details in our special summer edition of CHARTISM e-magazine telling the story of the six Tolpuddle labourers transported to Australia five years before John Frost, Zephaniah Williams and William Jones.

 

SATURDAY 5th NOVEMBER

Annual Newport Chartist Convention

at the Duffryn High School, Newport.

Keynote speaker will be Prof. Malcolm Chase (Leeds University).

Other speakers include:

Peter Strong (‘Henry Vincent’); Les James (‘John Frost in New York’)

Elin Jones will be interviewing a film director about the challenges involved in making a ‘Chartist film’.
