On Wednesday 25 September 2024 a statue was unveiled of Lady Rhondda, the Newport and national Suffragette near the east side exit of the Millennium bridge in Newport
A wide range of Newport dignitaries attended. Songs were sung by the Suffragette chorus, and St Woolos & Maindee Primary school. There was an excellent rendition of the "March of the Women" by Ethel Smyth- The Suffragette Anthem. (see below)
Among those present were Angela V. John, a friend of Newport Chartists (2013 Convention) author of "Turning the Tide", members of Lady Rhondda's family, the fantastic Jane Robbins the statue's artist & The Monumental Welsh Women & Statue for Lady Rhondda gang. Long standing Newport Chartist supporters, Dame Rosemarie Butler, Jess Morden MP(Co Chair of this year's Convention) and Jayne Bryant MS were also present.
