2. CHARTIST MUSIC NIGHT at the Pen & Wig Stow Hill
The Chartist Band will perform.
PETER STRONG revives the ‘forgotten story’ of Dr. William Williams Morgan, who during the night and morning of 3rd- 4th 1839 risked his life in the ‘thick’ of the Chartist Rising - disarming a Chartist as well as tending wounded men.
The annual Commemoration at the Chartist Stone in St Woolos Churchyard returns to its original format this year.
Pat Drewett sets out the vision of Our Chartists Heritage in relation to Newport - City of Democracy. . . the unique identity of the city that underlines its involvement with the Welsh Chartist and Suffragette movements, and asserts that this identity is just as important to Newport’s future as to its past because it allows the city to develop sustainable assets that reinforce its heritage and raise its profile.
